Good Lord, all the saints and the others
A year at the foot of the mountains

Exposition V: Good Lord, all the saints and the others

The exposition provides a look at the life of rustic Christian families and at graphic and plastic folk- art in the Frenštát area in the 19th and beginning 20th century. Mainly underglass paintings and a collection of wood-carvings, some anonymous some by known artists, present a line that follows the graphic and plastic representation of saints. The visitor learns about the patron saints in context with the religious conviction and anniversary and family customs of that particular period. Such customs have their graphic and plastic representation in the form of, for example, Lichnov Easter eggs, Easter switches and pilgrimage pastries from the surroundings.

In particular, hand-painted nativity scenes, which were later carved out of wood, made Frenštát famous. We can also consider textile embroidery as graphic and plastic art, among which are embroideried shirts for men, puffed sleeves for women, bonnets, scarves and handkerchiefs.

From ceremonial apparel, the exposition gives you a look at maternity shawls worn in connection with baptisms, weddings and funerals. A part of the exposition is dedicated to contemporary graphic and plastic folk-art. There are underglass paintings, plastic figures of wood and, more recently, of metal.
